I stepped on a piece of it and got a shaft of grass lodged in my foot. What a terrible mistake! The dune grass here is exceptionally hard. One word of caution - on the way back, I thought to take a shortcut down the dune by going over the sand and grass instead of down the steps. The bathroom is a crummy little port-a-potty. By the way, the only bathroom is on the OPPOSITE side of the dunes from the beach, so if you have to go to the bathroom, you will have to trudge all the way back up the stairs and back down the other side. We stayed there for hours and could have probably stayed even longer if we did not have to leave. It is a splendid view of the lake and there are beautiful dunes all around. It took us about 30 minutes to drag all four of our little kids up over the stairs and down to the beach.īut once you get to the beach, what a gorgeous view! The area is secluded and the sand pristine. You're going to be carrying them the entire way. There is a very helpful wooden staircase constructed to help you navigate it, but it is steep, and if you have little children, forget about it. There is a massive sand dune between the parking lot and the beach, and it is so steep and high it might as well be a cliff. The first thing you should know about this beach is the insane amount of steps you have to go up and down to get to the lake. We went to this beach last autumn on one of those unseasonably warm days (I think it was 80 degrees an around October 7th).
